Research

Professor Masic’s research focuses on the science-enabled engineering of sustainable construction materials for large-scale infrastructure innovation. A chemist by training, with expertise in biomineralization, he specializes in the development of multifunctional cement-based materials, ranging from self-healing concrete materials to carbon absorbing concretes and electron conducting cement-based materials. He is a principal investigator in the Concrete Sustainability Hub at MIT, a faculty fellow in Archaeological Materials at MIT’s Center for Materials Research in Archaeology and Ethnology (CMRAE), and the faculty director of the Refugee ACTion Hub (ReACT) at MIT. Biography

Consultant for Adamantio srl and ERRESSE Group (http://www.erressegroup.it/restauro.html). Several years of experience in working on projects related to the restoration of archaeological, architectonic and artistic objects including: (i) Dead Sea Scrolls (Shrine of the Book, Jerusalem), (ii) Masterpieces of Italian painters: Caravaggio (Bacchus, Boy Bitten by a Lizard, The Raising of Lazarus), Titian (Martirio di San Lorenzo), Paolo Veronese (Last Supper), and others; (ii) Monuments and archaeological sites: Bernini columns of St. Peter's Basilica in Rome (Vatican City), Carignano Palace (Turin), Carignano Theater (Turin), Egyptian Museum (Turin), Stupinigi Palace (Turin), Imperial Roman Villa of Arcinazzo Romano (Rome), Royal Palace in Monza (Monza), archaeological excavations Criptoportici (Formia, Latina), archaeological excavations Santa Maria church and monastery of Tergu (Sassari), and others.
